Not a Bright Day for Mud Baths

I've had a bit of an obsession with Arrowhead Springs for some time. How can a world-famous health resort just...dry up? This one did. Well, it didn't dry up-it was bought, and now sits unused for health reasons, in private hands.  Who bought it?

In 1962 Dr. William R. Bright, founder of CAMPUS CRUSADE FOR CHRIST, purchased the property as their International Headquarters - Now located in Orlando Florida.

Here's a little history on this once-fabulous hotel. Can someone buy it for me please?

Have You Seen Me?

Sorry for my absence. After a few years at Haunted Chez Lethal, my fiance and I are cohabitating in a new home. Chester has a nice big yard and his favorite thing, a cold cement slab (no, really!) and a few porches. My ghosts will miss me, I'm sure. As I unpacked and placed my items on the shelf from the box marked "MARWALS" (of course I had one) there was one missing...
Description: Chalkware. Birthdate: 1960s. Birthplace: Florida. "Polynesian" Boy, although often mistaken for girl on auction sites. Known to wear melon lipstick. Groomed brows. Prefers Mia Farrow NOT Justin Bieber.  No arms, legs, or trunk so cannot get far. Last seen: Hollywood vicinity. Family, especially Uncle Sabu and twin sister miss very much.

Miss Mae

I've always been a huge fan of Mae Murray. I wrote a small bit about her in Weird Hollywood as she's buried here at Valhalla. What is it about "Miss Itsy-Poo of 1922" that's so bizarrely endearing? That Norma Desmond-meets-Baby Jane yet you just have to love her because of, not in spite of it...her steadfast refusal to deny that Hollywood has turned its back on her and at the same time, refuse all efforts to face the present. "Never heard of him," she'd answer when questioned in her later years about her first husband. Now that's a woman I just adore.

There's a new book out now by Michael Ankerich called Mae Murray: The Girl with the Bee-Stung Lips that's a must-read. I devoured it in two nights. I won't spoil it for you - get it!

Fashions by Gert Wilden

Mavis and I have always loved Rolf Torring! I even used to call a boyfriend of mine by the name (he's German.)

Don't you think all fashion shows should be like this?

A Little Bitty Tear

I'm going to miss you, Huell. I'll miss you asking me, "Didja git the creamed spinach?" at Musso's. I'll miss seeing you at the mail stop at Larchmont. I'll miss the time you made me play Opie to your Andy at Franklin Canyon and put a stick in my hand as we walked along the lake. I'll miss that wavy green and yellow shirt that had such little tiny stripes that they almost hovered off your shirt into the air. I'll miss that childlike wonder in your voice that made you call me on the way to Franklin Canyon to ask for directions.
But most of all, I'll miss you saying, "That's amaaaazing."
