Never heard of this, but as a child in rural Florida, every easter there were painted chicks, and the dye lasted quite a while as they were growing up...
Like Wally, I remember those at the Woolworths in rural Texas.
Always wanted one but Mom refused; probably already having 2 dogs and cat was the reason. Did have the baby turtle though.
