Lesson 7: Bad Trip Gothics

Her hippie caftan is spattered with blood, but she looks exultant, not scared. Is the Man in the Shadow named Charlie?
Frightening hairdos on both, and that outstretched arm surely awaits a raptor.
A junior high friend had an older sister who looked just like this girl — a sadistic slut who dosed us for laughs when Cathy and I were 13, then ODed on junk a few years later. Never accept Kool-Aid from a redhead!
The Gothic Romance Paperbacks I love the most are the ones that evoke those freaked-out days of the late 60s and early 70s when the zeitgeist was one giant bad trip, full of the scary acid rock my brothers constantly blasted (anyone remember DOA by Bloodrock?), Manson girls, and the most hideous fringed ponchos the world has ever known.
Assignment: What was your worst LSD experience and why? (If you don't own one, this can be someone else's you just heard about, like the bummer my friend Matt had, and climbed into a laundromat dryer to wait out.)
For more ominous hippies see tumblr: Gothic Romance.

I've never intentionally done drugs nor has anyone I've known done LSD. (Though my brother Paul used to do drugs - pot being the one he used the most - and he would get so violent! I know, pot usually mellows but the doctor thinks it did otherwise because he was epileptic as a child and the pot triggered mini-seizures that turned him into a raging beast.)

I did, however, end up getting accidentally high on too much cough syrup in junior high school. Hycomine(sp?) in fact. The same day as the big school field trip to Sea World where we were allowed to run around in charge of ourselves rather then having teachers hovering over us. Nothing like seeing Shamu when you're high as a kite.

Shamu!
In the mid 70s at my jr high druggies were the rule rather than the exception (there was a head shop right next to the dime store!) but it was all so horrible it was like getting vaccinated with a life long immunity against drug abuse. Loving these old covers is as close as I get to nostalgia for that period...

Us redheads - whether in comic books, pulp, or gothic romances - are ALWAYS OMINOUS! Now that's a good title for a book ...

Redhead = Bad Girl!
Redheads Are Always Ominous — just think of the cover for that one. Maybe Cool Cookie could write it. Too bad Gothic Romances have devolved into that Twilight crap, they now have the most boring covers!

I have never done acid - no need to: my life was trippy enough for anyone. LSDs fade with time and only offers the occassional flashback. Mine happen in an instant! And its haunting when I have flash backs to those memories of happier day times and terrifying nights on Sherrington Road...

I TOTALLY remember DOA! It was on heavy rotation on WPGC and then it got banned! Fortunately, by then I had the 45 (wish the hell I still did). Do you remember "Timothy" by the Buoys? Pop music does cannibalism. Owned that one too.

First time I did acid (I've already told you this story), I wound up being the last entrant in The Saint Patricks Day Parade, driving my maroon Pinto behind a giant green shamrock.

"Timothy, Timothy, where on earth did you go?
Timothy, Timothy, God why don't I know?"

Because you ate 10 hits of LSD before you got the munchies!
